Schaumburg Illinois - Recycle your old Refrigerator and get $$$

There's money in your old working second refrigerator.

If you've got an older, working second refrigerator or freezer keeping your soda pop or ice cream cold, chances are it's an energy hog. In fact, most second refrigerators or freezers are 15 years or older and use up to 5 times more electricity than newer models. That means you could be wasting as much as $150 a year in electricity!

For a limited time, through ComEd's Smart Ideas for Your Home program, ComEd will pay you $25 for your old, working fridge or freezer, pick it up for FREE and recycle it in an environmentally responsible way (View our recycling process video to learn more). We'll also pick up and recycle your old working room air conditioners when we come to get your refrigerator or freezer.

To qualify, you must be a ComEd residential delivery services customer, and your fridge or freezer must meet these minimum requirements:

  • Between 10 and 30 cubic feet in size.
  • Empty and working at the time of pick-up.
  • Accessible with a clear path for removal by contractor*.

So get rid of these old inefficient appliances - and the costs that go with them. Enroll online or call us to schedule a pick-up at 1-888-806-2273.

*ComEd has contracted with JACO Environmental, the nation's premier appliance recycling contractor, to collect and recycle refrigerators, freezers and room air conditioners.

Program funding is limited. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted.

Readers:  I've recently done this and it was easy, totally painless, very professional people showed up and took it away (refrigerator) on a truck.  I sign a paper, my check arrived about a month later.  SO IT WORKS!
