Yes, real estate is such a glamorous job as you can see by these pictures! A documentation in pictures of the job of a Realtor© - how glamorous indeed after you see these houses! So this week I've seen some pretty funny things, some pathetic things and some indescribable things. Some things are so gross they're won't be any pictures!
Let's begin if we may:
These folks had 2 days notice that I was coming which is plenty of time for making your house presentable in my book. I almost fell down the stairs, assaulted by the smell of chihuahua poop (small stuff that packs a big odor BTW). I had to go home, change my coat and spray it heavily with Fabreeze inside and out.
Then let's preview that local foreclosure that popped on the market with that insane low price. Or is the price insane? You be the judge with the photos!

Did you notice that the foreclosure looked better than the first home?
Then let's go into a home where the 'seller absolutely gets it'. This is the seller that wants to put her home on the market & puts it out to the public in the best possible light. I like this lady! It's my new listing.
Extremes all in one day, that's the glamorous job of a Realtor©.

I bet those sellers wanted top dollar for their listing too!
Geez....the things people will do! Great post!
Kari & Travis: Just trying to show the extremes that we go to and see every day.
Lyn...some days you have to shuk a lot of oysters to find that one pearl!
Bill: Very well put. :-0
Lyn,
Seller 1 doesn't have to tidy; she or he is clearly praying for a buyer to overlook that pigsty!
As for no cabinet doors, I showed one where the owner took the entire cabinets.
Thank heavens for 1 out of 3! Sell that beauty quickly.
Hi Lyn~ So Funny!! I am glad that you took some pictures! Gives a whole new meaning to "fixer-upper"! Thanks for sharing!
Lyn, I just recently saw a home that was painted and they left a 1/2 inch gap around all the plug covers and switch plates...rather than taking out one or two screws each...lazy work, looks awful no matter who is doing the painting.
Steve: Ahhh, the paint challenged seller. The same guy that 'biffs' the ceiling with their roller 20 times in a small bedroom!
Stephen: It's sad and funny at the same time. 2 out of 3 for the day I guess.
Irene: Have been seeing more & more of that lately - I'll show the bank stuff. Very immature & just plain nasty I think. The last REO I sold the seller cut out the inside of the furnace - you could see the bolt cutter marks on what was left.
Now those are really some extremes!
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia!
Hi Lyn, I like your new listing, it's beautiful! and what a breath of fresh air compared to the others. I was shocked by a foreclosure in our area last summer, everything seemed to be OK - it had cabinet doors, until the listing agent told me all the copper plumbing had been ripped out of the house through the crawl space below - it's always something :-)
Mary, I understand that is an unfortunate trend in urban areas now with copper being more valuable. You just don't go into a house and lift it though - has to take some time & how do you explain that to nosy neighbors?
Charles: You can't make this stuff up.
Lyn, Nothing surprises me these days especially when I step foot into a short sale or foreclosure listing.
Its amazing what you run into showing homes! Kind of like Forest Gump's Mother "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get!"
It's the extremes that really make you happy some days that you are in the middle.
We see it all don't we? That first one takes the cake. Why even bother painting?
I must have been following behind you today. I had several homes I wasn't able to get through. I'm listing 2 more tomorrow. Sure hope they are in better shape than your first photos.
Kay: I hope not, hope you had better luck & no homes with chihuahuas. Tread lightly everyone.
Philip: Makes you wonder why sellers/owners thought this was OK? This wasn't the only similar paint job in the home - there was bright green going up the stair well that was 'cut out' around the banister railing & moldings. Nothing like Shrek Green in the stairwell!
Team Knowles & Sam: It's a surprise everytime the door opens!
Russel: Sometimes even the 'mid range' is a little odd.
