Fridge Art - In the summer of 2010, ComEd launched its Fine Art Fridges (pic above) display along Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The display, which ran August 1st through September 15th, featured nine recycled refrigerators transformed into the works of art by Chicago-area artists and depicted themes ranging from Chicago architecture to a celebration of flowers.  In October and November, portions of the display appeared at three Chicago-area locations, where attendees were invited to vote for their favorite work of art. The results of this vote will be announced in January 2011.

Getting rid of old energy inefficient appliances is a good thing - especially when they give you a few bucks! And the savings is well worth it!

Great tip, Lyn. Just listed a condo last night with an old fridg in the garage. Do they drive to Seattle? ;)

Glenn:  I'm not sure, they don't say territory only a ComEd customer. ;-)

Gary:  So far I've gotten rid of 2 myself and it was as easy as a phone call.  In Canada they call it the 'Great Refrigerator Roundup' which I thought was great.  Logo has a lariat on an old frig.

Nancy:  Check it out for your area I bet you'll find out they do.

Learn something new everyday.  I'd want more than $35 dollars, but hey....it's garbage anyway.   $35 beats trying to pay someone to haul it away.  I like the energy credits too!!!!  Very cool.

Larry:  They actually recycle just about the whole thing. I think it's better than having to find someone to take it away for you.  Also in townhomes, etc. you can't leave this stuff just at the curb.

Lyn:  I love these blogs.  The info they contain and the options they afford us are fantastic.  Although the info is out there ... your forum for information is more likely to be found and read.  We're recyclers at our house ... so the Mundts applaud you!

Lyn...It is good to get that OLD unit out of the house.  Many people running two units really can get by with just one.

Bill:  Just because you keep it for 'pop' and things doesn't make it efficient.  I'm sure if people would figure out how much it actually costs to keep that pop cold for the kids they'd shut it off.

Gene:  There are so many people that don't know what to do with an old fridge when they get a new home.  This is a great way to take care of it & they recycle the thing entirely.
